The High Cost of Storage

“Here’s where we’re going to store the chairs!” I remember Dennis speaking those words as he showed me around his then under construction new church facility with a large multi-purpose room that would seat 700. Chairs were going to be set up and taken down often and would need to be stored. As we interacted more I learned the building committee was planning on purchasing 700 pew-style chairs for this room. The $40 price point such chairs carry was attractive to his building committee. I asked Dennis what the overall project was costing his church per square foot. “$130” was his response. I processed a few numbers in my head and asked him, “What if I could provide a chair that would be far stronger, far lighter, just as comfortable, and while it would cost $75 each versus $40, would result in a net savings for your church of $27,500?” Boy, did that get his attention!
